2,300-Year-Old Discovery in Hattusa: Tombs with Skeletons and Mysterious Dagger Unveiled

In the archaeological excavations at Hattusa Ancient City, which has an 8,000-year history in Boğazkale district of Çorum, a new cemetery dating back to the Early Hellenistic and Galatian periods was discovered. This year, 3 tombs from approximately 2,300 years ago were unearthed. One of the tombs drew the attention of the excavation team due to its well-preserved architectural features and the intact skeleton inside. A dagger was found next to the skeleton's right shoulder. The tomb, surrounded by a 7-meter stone wall, has a second stone wall that can fit an average adult. The tomb's architectural structure is expected to contribute to a better understanding of the funeral rituals of the period. The dagger found next to the skeleton is being researched by experts to determine whether it was a burial gift or an item buried with the deceased.
