Hamas Appoints New Leader: Khalil al-Hayya

The Palestinian group Hamas has appointed a new leader. Following a second round of voting against Khalid Meshaal, Khalil al-Hayya has been appointed as the new leader of Hamas.Hamas appointed Khalil al-Hayya as the new leader, replacing Yahya Sinwar, who was killed by the Israeli army in Gaza in October 2024.The former deputy president of the Palestinian group, Al-Hayya won the second round of voting against Khalid Meshaal.Born in the Gaza Strip in 1960, Al-Hayya has been part of Hamas since its establishment in 1987.The appointment of Al-Hayya as the leader of Hamas marks the beginning of a new era for the Palestinian group.
