Major Explosive Discovery in Southern Lebanon

Major Explosive Discovery in Southern Lebanon
A significant discovery was made in southern Lebanon as part of a joint operation. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced that approximately 4 tons of ammonium nitrate compound were found in the region. This important discovery was made during a routine patrol on July 2 near the town of Houla in southern Lebanon. A search of an abandoned building by expert teams found 385 containers with approximately 4,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate compound. UNIFIL determined that these materials posed a serious security risk and were safely neutralized on site by expert bomb disposal teams. UNIFIL also noted that despite a decrease in conflicts along the Israel-Lebanon border, unexploded ordnance and other explosive remnants continue to pose a threat in the area. In another operation on July 10, explosive materials were found in a downed unmanned aerial vehicle near a UN position, which were safely neutralized.
