Fuego Volcano in Guatemala Continues to Pose Threat
The Fuego Volcano in Guatemala has seen a decrease in the intensity of its eruptions, but authorities have warned that the danger has not yet passed. The volcano's ash and lava have led to the evacuation of at least 1,699 people, with over 29,000 affected by the ash fall. The Guatemalan National Coordination for Disaster Reduction (Conred) reported a gradual decrease in volcanic activity, but noted that the material accumulated at the summit continues to collapse. This situation could lead to the formation of deadly pyroclastic flows. Additionally, expected rainfall in the region could trigger lahars, or mudflows, caused by the mixture of volcanic ash and rock with water.
