Guatemala's Fuego Volcano Erupts: Evacuation Orders Issued

Following the eruption of Guatemala's Fuego Volcano, evacuation orders have been issued for residents in surrounding areas. A similar eruption occurred in the same period last year. According to a statement from Guatemala's National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED), the Fuego Volcano, located approximately 50 kilometers southwest of the capital, became active yesterday morning local time.The statement noted that the intensity of the eruption increased throughout the day, and evacuation orders were issued for two villages near the volcano. With the alarm level at orange, warnings were issued that ash could spread to surrounding areas. The statement also reported that a nearby highway was closed to traffic and schools in the area suspended classes.
