Food Inflation Impacts Grocery Shopping in the US

The effects of food inflation in the US are being felt in grocery shopping. A new analysis shows that consumers are buying fewer products, and price increases are not offsetting the decline in sales.
According to data shared by Bain & Company, the number of products sold in June decreased by 1.8% compared to the same period last year. Prices continued to rise by 2 to 3% annually, but this increase was not enough to drive total sales growth.
The change in consumer behavior is also affecting large food manufacturers. PepsiCo announced a 2% decline in its North American food revenue in the second quarter. Consumers who reduced their market spending turned to cheaper brands, bought fewer products, and used more coupons.
Large retail chains are focusing on price cuts and promotions to attract customers.
