France Battles Devastating Wildfires: 200,000 Evacuated in 3 Days

Wildfires raging in southwestern France have led to the evacuation of approximately 200,000 people in just three days. The government has deployed military personnel and air units to the region, with all scenarios, including the evacuation of Bordeaux, being considered. According to local reports, the fires in the Gironde and Landes departments have continued unabated, with the blaze in Gironde becoming one of the largest in French history. The prefecture reported that 32,700 hectares have been burned since July 22. The number of people evacuated due to the fires has reached 167,000, with around 60,000 evacuated last night, and 54 firefighters have been lightly injured during the fire-fighting efforts. The government has announced the deployment of 1,000 military personnel and an A400M military transport plane to Gironde. The mayor of Bordeaux, Thomas Cazenave, stated that around 6,000 people, including those in need of medical care, have been accommodated at the Bordeaux Exhibition Center. Thousands of people have also been evacuated from the holiday resort of Cap-Ferret in the department. In Landes, 2,600 hectares have been burned, and over 500 fire teams are still battling the fire, with 31,000 people evacuated from the area.
