France Suffers Over 2,000 Deaths in a Week Due to Heatwave
A heatwave in France in June resulted in 2,025 more deaths than the average of previous years between June 22-28. Authorities warned that the country would experience another heatwave next week.The heatwave in France had negative effects on many areas of daily life. Health Minister Stephanie Rist stated that the number of deaths during June 22-28 increased by 30% compared to the previous week.The French Health Ministry previously announced that approximately 1,000 people lost their lives due to the heatwave between June 24-28. The extreme heat that lasted for about two weeks affected daily life in many areas, including transportation, health, education, and production.In the capital Paris, it was announced that 109 people lost their lives due to heat-related causes on June 26 alone. Meteorological authorities reported that another heatwave is expected to affect France from next week.Authorities called on people in risk groups, especially the elderly, those with chronic illnesses, and children, to take necessary precautions against the heat.
