France Heatwave Death Toll Rises: Over a Thousand Lives Lost as Temperatures Soar

According to a statement by France's public health agency Sante publique France, the country recorded over 1200 deaths on June 24 and more than 1400 deaths on June 25 and 26.
The agency emphasized that the increase in daily fatalities is directly linked to the soaring temperatures.

In its press release dated June 28, 2026, Sante publique France announced that approximately 1000 additional deaths were reported from June 24 compared to previous months.
The statement revealed that on June 24, when temperatures reached their peak, the country saw over 1200 deaths due to all causes. The following days, June 25 and 26, saw the death toll exceed 1400.
However, it was noted that the June 26 data has not been finalized yet.
