Ebola Outbreak in France: 5 People Quarantined After Doctor Tests Positive

France has been put on high alert after a doctor who returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) tested positive for Ebola. Health Minister Stephanie Rist announced that 5 people who came into contact with the doctor have been quarantined as a precaution.The doctor had been working on a humanitarian mission in the DRC and was in the early stages of the disease. Rist stated that the doctor had developed a headache during the flight and reported it to the authorities.An investigation into the flight's contact chain revealed that 5 people had been in close contact with the doctor and were subsequently quarantined.The French Health Ministry confirmed that this is the first Ebola case to be reported in France in recent times.The Ebola outbreak resurfaced in the Ituri province of the DRC in May, with 246 suspected cases and 65 deaths reported, leading to the declaration of an outbreak on May 15.The World Health Organization (WHO) declared an international public health emergency on May 17 due to the renewed outbreak.According to health officials, the current outbreak is caused by the rare 'Bundibugyo' variant of Ebola, for which there is no approved treatment or vaccine.
