Alligator Attacks on the Rise in Florida: 3 Attacks in a Week, 1 Dead

The recent alligator attacks in Florida, USA, have raised concerns about safety in the region. Authorities reported that in the latest attack, a 31-year-old woman lost her life, and two people were injured. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), the incident occurred on Sunday in the Econlockhatchee River, north of Orlando. The 31-year-old woman was swimming in the river with her boyfriend and a friend when they were attacked by an alligator. Authorities stated that the woman's boyfriend tried to rescue her from the alligator's jaws but she suffered severe injuries to both arms. Despite medical interventions, the woman succumbed to her injuries. FWC teams captured two alligators, one approximately 4 meters long and the other about 3.7 meters long, near the scene of the attack. Just 24 hours before the fatal attack, a child was bitten by an alligator while fishing with his father in Marion County. A few days prior, a person snorkeling in the Rainbow River was injured in an alligator attack. After the first attack, the river was temporarily closed, and the approximately 2.6-meter-long alligator responsible was caught and euthanized. The alligator that attacked the child was also later caught and euthanized. With approximately 1.3 million alligators living in Florida, attacks on humans are rare. According to FWC data, the state averages about eight unprovoked alligator attacks per year.
