FIFA Imposes Severe Sanctions on Nepal: National Team and All Clubs Banned from International Football
The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has decided to suspend the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) indefinitely due to alleged 'third-party interference'. As a result, Nepal's national teams and clubs are banned from participating in FIFA and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) organizations until further notice. This decision means that ANFA's membership rights are suspended, preventing Nepal's national teams and clubs from participating in FIFA and AFC tournaments.FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström informed member associations that ANFA has been suspended under Article 16 of the FIFA Statutes and has temporarily lost all its membership rights.According to local reports, the Nepal National Sports Council's refusal to recognize ANFA elections and disputes over the current administration's term contributed to FIFA's 'third-party interference' assessment.FIFA rules require national football associations to operate independently without interference from political or administrative authorities. The suspension affects not only official matches but also all other activities.FIFA stated that the suspension can be lifted without waiting for the next FIFA Congress if the necessary conditions are met. The Nepal men's national team is currently ranked 177th, while the women's national team is ranked 88th in the FIFA world rankings.
