FBI Agent Stole $1 Million in Cryptocurrency, Sought Advice from AI

A senior counterintelligence agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Patrick Yaroch, admitted to stealing $1 million in cryptocurrency from an account he accessed during an investigation. The agent's digital wallet was found to contain approximately $1 million in cryptocurrency. Yaroch confessed to the crime in person to a US Department of Justice employee and claimed he had mixed the funds with his own personal assets.According to court records, Yaroch made between 10 and 12 separate transactions from late 2024 to early 2025. The senior agent misused the secret access information of a suspect and utilized the FBI's official investigation opportunities for his own gain. It was discovered that Yaroch had consulted ChatGPT in May, seeking advice on how to invest the $1 million.
