Faik Oztrak Becomes New Group Chairman of CHP
Faik Oztrak, a member of parliament from Tekirdag, has been elected as the new group chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP). Meanwhile, Sevda Erdan Kılıç and Rahmi Aşın Türeli, both from Izmir, were elected as the group's deputy chairmen. The two were chosen in a closed meeting at the party's headquarters, which was chaired by party leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu. The meeting saw 39 of the party's 44 MPs in attendance, with the remaining 5 absent. Oztrak and Gurzel Erol, an MP from Elazig, had contested the group chairmanship. In the first two rounds of voting, neither candidate was able to secure a majority, but Erol later withdrew his candidacy, paving the way for Oztrak's election in the third round.
