Home-Based Botox Application Causes Young Woman's Eyelid to Drop: Prison Sentence of Up to 7 Years Sought

A lawsuit has been filed against Karina Meltem Ateş, who is accused of causing a 21-year-old woman's eyelid to drop after a botched botox procedure at her home in Zeytinburnu. The prosecutor's office is seeking a prison sentence of 2 years and 4 months to 7 years for Ateş.
According to the indictment, the complainant, İdil Keten, underwent the botox procedure at Ateş's home on May 13, after being referred by a friend. Keten claimed that after the procedure, her eyelid dropped, and when she asked Ateş about it, Ateş told her she might have contracted an infection and dismissed her concerns.
Keten then went to the hospital for treatment and filed a complaint with the police. In her defense, Ateş stated that she had received training in beauty expertise and that Keten had come to her home with a friend on the day of the incident.
Ateş claimed that Keten had a pre-existing problem with her eye and that she had not performed any botox procedure, denying the allegations against her. The medical report in the case file noted that Keten's injury could not be treated with simple medical intervention.
The prosecutor's office is seeking a prison sentence of 2 years and 4 months to 7 years for Ateş on charges of 'negligent injury' and 'violation of the Law on the Practice of Medicine and Related Arts'.
