Former AKUT President Nasuh Mahruki Faces Detention Request

Former Search and Rescue Association (AKUT) President Nasuh Mahruki was detained due to a social media post regarding the July 15 coup attempt. The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation against Mahruki on charges of "inciting hatred and hostility among the people". Mahruki was referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for detention.Nasuh Mahruki was born in 1968 in Istanbul and graduated from Şişli Terakki High School, before graduating from Bilkent University Faculty of Business Administration in 1992. Having met with mountaineering sports in 1988, Mahruki was the president of Bilkent University Nature Sports Community for three years. As a founding member of AKUT, Mahruki later served as the Chairman of the AKUT Board of Directors. He resigned from this post in 2016 and also left the AKUT Honorary Presidency in 2019.
