The Story of 400,000 Lira Found in Trash: A Lucky Recovery

A jeweler in Izmir, Turkey, brought home a bag containing 400,000 lira belonging to his friend, but his wife mistakenly threw it away with the trash. The family searched through 15 tons of waste to find the money, but to no avail. They then reviewed security footage and discovered that the bag had not been taken by the garbage truck. The footage revealed that the bag was still in the neighborhood's trash container, and indeed, the 400,000 lira was found there. Jeweler Mehmet Güneş had left the bag in the kitchen, unaware that his wife would think it was trash and throw it away. Güneş and his family searched through the waste but could not find the money. They then reviewed the security footage and saw that the bag had been left in the trash container. Güneş went to the container and found the bag with the 400,000 lira among the trash. Güneş explained that the money belonged to his friend and that his wife had mistakenly thrown it away. He credited the security cameras for helping them recover the lost money, saying 'It was halal money, and it came back'.
