Armenia Introduces Voting Restrictions for Overseas Citizens

The Armenian Parliament has adopted a new electoral law that makes it more difficult for Armenian citizens living abroad to vote in elections. This move has been met with criticism from civil society organizations, who argue that it 'violates the political rights of Armenian citizens living abroad'. According to the new regulations, Armenian citizens wishing to vote in general elections must have spent at least half of the two years preceding the election date in Armenia. In the case of early elections, this period will be calculated 28 days prior to the election. This law, prepared by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract Party, has been passed in parliament.
