Minister of Energy Alparslan Bayraktar: Turkey's Renewable Energy Capacity is Increasing

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar explained Turkey's investments in the field of renewable energy. Bayraktar emphasized the importance of the Akkuyu, Gabar, and Osman Gazi production platforms. He stated that Turkey's renewable energy capacity is increasing and said, 'The 70-year nuclear energy goal is becoming a reality in Akkuyu.' Bayraktar underlined that nuclear energy is one of the critical components of Turkey's energy transformation. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening electric transportation and energy infrastructure. Regarding the Gabar oil field project, Bayraktar said it should not be evaluated solely in terms of oil production, stating, 'We are reducing our dependence on foreign oil in the energy sector.' Bayraktar mentioned that the natural gas studies in the Black Sea are also part of this process. He noted that the drilling operations under the seabed in the Black Sea are challenging from an engineering perspective and that Turkey's ability to carry out these projects with its own technology and human resources has increased the country's self-confidence. Bayraktar also touched upon the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant project. He stated that the first reactor is expected to start producing electricity in the coming months, which will mark Turkey's entry into the nuclear energy league.
