A new assessment has been made for El Niño, one of the most significant climate events affecting the world's weather. Australian climate scientist Andrea Taschetto announced that the current El Niño is expected to reach its peak in December 2026.
The El Niño weather event, which directly affects the global climate system, is expected to reach its strongest phase in the coming months.
Andrea Taschetto, a climate scientist at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) 21st Century Weather Excellence Center, stated that the current El Niño will peak in December 2026 and then gradually weaken between February and May 2027.
Taschetto noted that the sea surface temperatures in the tropical Pacific Ocean continue to rise above seasonal norms.
