Ebola Outbreak Gains Momentum Again: Confirmed Death Toll Rises to 452

The ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has regained momentum, with the weekly case count reaching its highest level since the outbreak began. According to WHO data, as of July 1, the number of confirmed Ebola cases in the country has risen to 1,460, while the number of deaths due to the virus has reached 452. WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, stated during an online press conference that the virus continues to spread in the eastern provinces of Ituri and North Kivu. Authorities report that approximately three-quarters of the deaths occurred outside health facilities, indicating that many patients did not receive timely treatment. Ebola cases continue to be reported in neighboring Uganda. The WHO reports that the country has 20 confirmed cases, 15 of which are linked to the Democratic Republic of Congo. In May, the WHO assessed the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda as a public health emergency with international spread, classifying the regional risk level as 'high'.
