Birth Weight May Influence Kidney Endurance
A new study on ultramarathon runners suggests that birth weight may affect kidney health. The research found that athletes with low or high birth weights experienced more kidney stress after competitions. The study's findings indicate that birth weight is a significant factor in kidney stress. The study examined 44 ultramarathon athletes in two extreme competitions. Blood samples were taken before and after the competitions to measure kidney function and muscle damage. The results show that birth weight plays a crucial role in determining kidney health.According to the researchers, kidney 'reserve' is largely determined before birth. This discovery may partially explain why some people tolerate extreme physical stress better. However, the researchers emphasize that these findings should not discourage people from exercising.
