New Warning System for Dicle Baraj Gölü

A significant step has been taken to protect Dicle Baraj Gölü, the lifeblood of Diyarbakır. The DİSKİ General Directorate, in cooperation with GSM operators, has started sending warning messages to citizens who enter the protection area. This application was implemented within the scope of the Dicle Baraj Gölü Basin Protection Plan. In line with the plan, short messages are sent to the cell phones of individuals who enter the protected area. DİSKİ General Manager Mehmet Şerifoğlu stated that a significant portion of Diyarbakır's drinking water is supplied from Dicle Baraj Gölü. Şerifoğlu emphasized that the protection of the water source is of vital importance. Şerifoğlu noted that the main risks encountered in the basin include the indiscriminate disposal of domestic and animal waste, illegal construction, unauthorized camping and picnic activities, and uncontrolled water events. Şerifoğlu urged citizens not to leave waste in the protection area and to report any potential pollution or irregularities to the relevant authorities, emphasizing that the protection of Dicle Baraj Gölü is a shared responsibility.
