Over 100 Venezuelan Deportees from US Go Missing After Earthquake

The earthquake in Venezuela has left the fate of hundreds of Venezuelan deportees from the US uncertain. The hotel where they were temporarily placed collapsed, leaving survivors to recount their horror while their families try to get information about the missing. The plane carrying Venezuelan migrants deported from the US landed in Venezuela just hours before the devastating earthquakes hit the country. Among the 146 people on the plane were 19 women and 7 children. According to data from the human rights organization Human Rights First, the passengers were taken to Hotel Santuario La Llanada in La Guaira after arriving in the country. The two earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, which occurred shortly after, caused significant destruction, especially in La Guaira. According to the accounts of those who survived the rubble, a significant number of people staying at the hotel were trapped under the debris. The Venezuelan government announced that over 1,700 people lost their lives in the earthquakes.
