Research Reveals Vitamin D Deficiency May Persist Throughout the Year

A new study has found that exposure to sunlight during the summer months may not be enough to boost vitamin D levels in some individuals. This discovery challenges a common assumption, particularly among the elderly and at-risk groups. The research, which examined the vitamin D levels of approximately 300 people living in northern England, revealed that levels can remain low throughout the year, especially among older adults and certain risk groups. The study assessed the vitamin D levels of participants aged 65 and above, as well as those from diverse ethnic backgrounds. The results showed that a significant proportion of participants had vitamin D deficiency. One of the most striking findings was that levels did not increase significantly during the summer months.Vitamin D plays a crucial role in maintaining bone health, and low levels have been linked to various bone diseases and immune system problems.
