Childhood Home Set on Fire Amid Inheritance Dispute

In Lancashire, England, 55-year-old Darren Davies set his childhood home on fire, causing an explosion, after believing he was disinherited.
The incident occurred on March 27, 2025, in the village of Hambleton, Lancashire. Davies set fire to the four-bedroom detached house, valued at approximately £260,000, which he shared with his brother Craig Davies after their parents' death in 2024. Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion and seeing glass and debris scattered around.
The prosecution stated that the fire brigade controlled the fire before it spread to neighboring houses. The investigation found that gas cylinders were placed in the kitchen, living room, and bedroom, and gasoline was poured into the attic, with candles used to accelerate the fire. It was reported that Davies told bystanders, "My family wants this house. If I can't have it, no one can," and expressed his desire to commit suicide.
