Chinese E-commerce Giant Alibaba Sues the Pentagon
Alibaba has filed a lawsuit against the US Department of Defense after being included on a list of companies with ties to the Chinese military. In the lawsuit, Alibaba stated that these designations have no factual or legal basis. The company emphasized that it is managed by an independent board of directors with no military affiliations. Alibaba noted that its products and services are used solely in the retail, logistics, and corporate IT sectors. Additionally, the company highlighted that it explicitly prohibits military use in its contracts and compliance policies and does not hold any military certifications or licenses. The Pentagon had previously announced that it would add 188 companies, including Alibaba, Tencent, and BYD, which are deemed to be connected to China's military-industrial complex, to the list. Following this development, Alibaba decided to take legal action against the decision to be included on this list.
