China had received approval in January to build a large embassy complex on a 20,000 square meter site near the Tower of London. This approval was part of London's broader policy to improve relations with Beijing. However, some politicians expressed concerns that the complex could be used for 'espionage activities'. British intelligence agencies stated that potential security risks could be managed with necessary measures. The Royal Mint Court Residents Association argued that the government's decision was unlawful. But the court rejected the association's claims. The court's summary judgment stated that the association failed to provide reasonable and convincing evidence of a potential human rights violation that would personally affect them.
