China's LineShine Becomes the World's Fastest Supercomputer
The list of the world's fastest supercomputers has been announced. China's LineShine supercomputer, developed in the city of Shincin, took the top spot with a processing capacity of 2.2 quintillion operations per second. LineShine surpassed its competitors in terms of processing power, rising to the top of the international rankings. In the TOP500 list announced at the International Supercomputer Conference in Hamburg, Germany, LineShine achieved a performance of 2.198 exaflops, outpacing all its rivals. One notable aspect of the supercomputer is its use of only central processing units (CPUs) instead of the traditionally used graphics processing units (GPUs). This design makes it the first fully CPU-based supercomputer to achieve exascale performance. LineShine is designed for use not only in scientific simulations but also in a wide range of fields, including artificial intelligence operations, climate modeling, engineering simulations, drug discovery, and neuroscience research.
