Typhoon Bavi Hits China: 2 Million People Evacuated

The Bavi Typhoon, which hit eastern China, has led to the evacuation of approximately 2 million people to safe areas. Flights and train services have been canceled, and authorities have raised the highest level of alarm against floods, landslides, and destructive winds. The typhoon, which started as a super typhoon, weakened and reached China's eastern coast. While authorities have not yet made an official statement regarding casualties, comprehensive evacuation and security measures have been taken for millions of people in the affected areas. According to Xinhua News Agency, the typhoon made landfall in Zhejiang Province on Saturday night with winds of up to 144 kilometers per hour. It continued to affect the region, causing heavy rainfall and storms. In total, approximately 1.72 million people were evacuated to safe areas in Zhejiang Province alone. More than 100,000 people in Beijing, over 130,000 in Fujian Province, and around 34,000 in Shanghai were forced to leave their homes. Prior to the typhoon, schools, workplaces, public transportation, and outdoor events were suspended. Over 300 flights were canceled in Zhejiang, while 684 flights and 1,620 train services were canceled in Shanghai. China's state television CCTV reported that strong winds in Yuhuan City uprooted numerous trees, while firefighting and rescue teams in Yueqing City worked to clear over 1,300 fallen trees.
