China Floods Worsen: 39 Dead, Hundreds of Venomous Snakes Escape

The southern Chinese region of Guangxi has been severely affected by Tropical Storm Maysak, resulting in 39 deaths. The floods have also caused hundreds of cobras and other venomous snakes to escape from snake farms.Rescue efforts and security measures against the snakes are being carried out simultaneously. Authorities have reported that the floodwaters are receding, but more rain is expected. The partial collapse of a reservoir dam in the Hengzhou region has led to a large amount of water flowing into the city.At least 26 people have died in this region alone, bringing the total death toll in Guangxi to 39. 9 people are still missing. The heavy rainfall has caused many reservoirs to overflow, roads to be closed, and thousands of people to be stranded in their homes.Approximately 130,000 people have been evacuated, with 5,700 boats, drones, and rescue teams deployed to the area. Authorities have also reported that evacuation efforts are ongoing for over 10,000 students and teachers trapped in school complexes.The floods have also affected snake farms in the region, with hundreds of snakes escaping. The escaped species include cobras, rat snakes, and other types of snakes.Authorities have increased the stock of antivenom in the Hengzhou region, set up special treatment units, and warned citizens not to approach the snakes on their own.Meanwhile, as China is still recovering from the effects of Maysak, Typhoon Bavi is expected to make landfall in the coming days, passing through northern Taiwan and potentially affecting the Zhejiang or Fujian coasts. Authorities have warned that the new typhoon could increase the risk of floods and landslides in the region.
