EU Statement on Ceuta Migrant Crisis

The European Commission announced that no connection was found between the migrant crisis in Ceuta, Spain's autonomous territory in Africa, and Russia. European Commission Spokesman Guillaume Mercier stated at a press conference in Brussels that no evidence was found of Russian disinformation aimed at inciting migration incidents in Arab social media. The European Commission detected significant interest from Russian media outlets and channels in the migrant crisis in Ceuta. However, no information activities were found before these events, prior to July 30. The European Commission evaluated the incidents in Ceuta as a result of the instrumentalization of migration by human trafficking organizations, including the spread of various disinformation types on social media.
