Çankaya Municipality President Hüseyin Can Güner and 23 Suspects Arrested

In the operation against the CHP-affiliated Çankaya Municipality, 24 suspects, including Municipality President Hüseyin Can Güner, were arrested. On July 11, a raid was conducted at the Çankaya Municipality building in Ankara, and President Hüseyin Can Güner was detained at Esenboğa Airport upon his return from a trip to Northern Cyprus. Güner and the other suspects had completed their procedures at the police station and were then taken to the Ankara Courthouse after a health check. In his statement to the police, Çankaya Municipality President Hüseyin Can Güner stated, 'I support myself with the mayor's salary and the amount I receive from the municipal council.' CHP Group Chairman Özgür Özel reacted to the operation by walking to the Çankaya Municipality and stating, 'If Hüseyin Can Güner has committed any wrongdoing, may God take my life.' Ankara Metropolitan Municipality President Mansur Yavaş also reacted to the operation, stating that he stands by Güner. Following the operation, 6 people were released on judicial control.
