Trial of Corruption Allegations in Büyükçekmece Municipality Begins

The trial of corruption allegations against Büyükçekmece Municipality has begun at the Istanbul 27th Heavy Penal Court. The defenses of the detained defendants are being taken.There are 31 defendants in the case. Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün and other detained defendants were brought to the courtroom.According to the indictment, Akgün allegedly created unauthorized excavation sites in Büyükçekmece during his term as mayor and obtained unjust gain from these activities.

The geographic and physical conditions of the Büyükçekmece district have led to the construction of many building projects in the area, and the criminal organization has also taken advantage of this situation to demand unjust gains from these projects, sometimes in the form of real estate and sometimes in cash

The indictment also states that Akgün used his position as mayor to obtain financial benefits from business owners under duress or coercion, and then concealed these benefits.
