Husband Cuts Off Gas Supply to Wife's Home Amid Divorce Proceedings: Court's Decision Raises Eyebrows

A couple in Istanbul going through divorce proceedings has found themselves in a tense situation over the use of their home. The wife filed a complaint after her husband cut off the gas supply to the house, leading to a court decision that has left many surprised. In the Kartal district of Istanbul, a woman named E.P. was granted the right to use the couple's home by a court decision after her husband obtained a restraining order against her. However, when her husband cut off the gas supply, she took her complaint to the court. The court ruled that the husband's actions constituted an obstruction to the wife's use of the home and sentenced him to 3 days of coercive imprisonment. In her complaint, E.P. stated that she and her husband were in the process of getting a divorce and that she had obtained a restraining order against him. She also mentioned that the court had awarded her the right to use the home and that her husband had sent her threatening and insulting messages.

M.P. told me that he would cancel the rental contract of our home and cut off the gas and other utilities. He used to pay the rent and bills until the last month, and I paid them the following month. After he sent me a message saying he would cut them off, he did so three days later and even blocked my personal bank account and other accounts.

The husband, M.P., stated in his defense that they had decided to get a divorce due to irreconcilable differences and that they had both obtained restraining orders against each other. He claimed that he had cut off the gas supply because he thought the house was empty since the rental contract was about to expire, but later turned it back on after his lawyer informed him that his wife was still living there.
