UN Calls for Permanent Peace: Latest on Israel-Lebanon Ceasefire

The spokesperson for the United Nations (UN) Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights called for the ongoing ceasefire process in Lebanon, where Israel continues to launch attacks despite the ceasefire, to be made the foundation of lasting peace. The spokesperson, Thameen Al-Kheetan, expressed hope for a genuine peace, stating that, as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk has also emphasized, all parties should work towards making the ceasefire a foundation for lasting peace and an end to hostility. International humanitarian law must be respected by all parties to the conflict and civilians must be protected.
