UN Warning: Up to 6.76 Million People May Be Affected by Venezuela Earthquakes

According to the UN, an estimated 6.76 million people may have been affected by the earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24.The assessment by IOM indicates that up to 2 million people in Caracas alone may have been impacted. Early damage assessments have begun to reveal the scale of the destruction.The initial satellite mapping analysis showed that 31.5% of the buildings in Catia La Mar were damaged, helping humanitarian responders to identify the most affected communities and prioritize life-saving assistance as ground assessments continue.

The humanitarian consequences of this disaster will extend far beyond the coming days. The recovery process will require sustained investment to help families rebuild their lives, restore basic services, and strengthen community resilience. IOM calls on the international community to act quickly to support the response. Timely humanitarian aid will save lives, alleviate suffering, and help affected communities embark on the long road to recovery.
