UN Report: Torture and Killing of Children in Gaza
The United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry has published a new report highlighting the severe human rights violations committed by Israel against children in the Gaza Strip and occupied Palestinian territories. The report documents that Israeli security forces have intentionally targeted, killed, and subjected Palestinian children to severe violence since October 7, 2023.According to the report, at least 20,179 children have been killed and 44,143 children have been injured in Gaza since October 7, 2023. These deaths are not the result of ordinary conflict but are a direct part of Israel's military strategy. The report warns that these actions can be seen as part of a strategy to destroy the 'biological continuity' of the Palestinian people in Gaza.Allegations of torture and ill-treatment of Palestinian children are also a highlight of the report. Children held in military detention centers were forced to confess, kept blindfolded and handcuffed. They were subjected to beatings, threatened with dogs, and suffered from gender-based violence, including inhuman and degrading treatment. The UN Commission of Inquiry stated that the living conditions of children have worsened significantly. Mass displacement, the collapse of Gaza's healthcare system, restricted access to food and medicine, and the targeting of schools and hospitals have caused irreparable psychological and physical damage to children. The UN declared that the 'essence of childhood' has been destroyed in Palestine and called on the international community to urgently protect children and investigate these war crimes globally.
