Warning to Municipalities on 'Live Broadcasting': Threat of 17 Million Lira Fine

The Personal Data Protection Board found that the live camera broadcasts from city squares and tourist areas by municipalities are contrary to the legislation.
The Board emphasized that the visibility of people's faces and the readability of license plates are against the law. If the broadcasts are not stopped, a fine of up to 17 million liras may be imposed on the municipalities.
The Personal Data Protection Board reminded municipalities that they do not have the authority to broadcast live.
It was determined that municipalities, for the purpose of tourist promotion, set up cameras in places like streets, squares, parks, and beaches, and broadcast the footage live on their websites, making people's identities visible.
