West Africa Floods: Death Toll Rises

West Africa, particularly Ivory Coast and Ghana, is experiencing a major flood disaster due to ongoing heavy rains.The rains have caused the deaths of 59 people in Ivory Coast and at least 13 in Ghana. The region's rainy season began in May and since then, many settlements have been flooded, roads have been closed, and power outages have occurred. Rescue teams are working in many areas.Ivory Coast's Minister of Communication, Amadou Coulibaly, announced in a cabinet meeting that 59 people have lost their lives in floods since the start of the rainy season. Authorities are concerned that the death toll may rise due to the continuation of the rains.In neighboring Ghana, at least 13 people have died, and over 400 people have been rescued. Ghana's President John Mahama stated that the rains in the country have exceeded the highest daily rainfall recorded last year.The heavy rains have also hit Benin, Togo, and Nigeria, causing major flooding in these countries. In Nigeria's Lagos, a power transformer station was shut down due to flooding, and power outages occurred in many neighborhoods.
