Water Levels in Dams Reach the Highest Level in Recent Years

The amount of water entering Turkey's dams has increased by 140 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 72.5 billion cubic meters. This increase has also had a strong impact on the electricity production of hydroelectric power plants. In the first 6 months of the year, hydroelectric production increased by 68 percent compared to the same period last year, and the share of hydroelectric power plants in total electricity production exceeded 32 percent. The water level and inflow in Turkey's dams have reached the highest levels in recent years.
The total active water amount in Turkey's dams was 72.53 billion cubic meters. This amount, which was 30.24 billion cubic meters in the same period last year, indicates an increase of 139.9 percent in the water entering the dams compared to last year. When the monthly distribution of the water amount entering the main basin dams is examined, the increase in the spring months stands out. This year, May had the highest value of the year with 19.3 billion cubic meters of water entry.
