According to a report by the Daily Star, a resignation letter was submitted to the parliament by presidential authorities. Muhammed Shahabuddin took office as the President of Bangladesh in April 2023. A former judge, Shahabuddin referred to his health problems as the reason for his resignation. The resignation is said to have come after allegations of a phone conversation with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed during his visit to London in May. Sheikh Hasina had announced her intention to return to the country despite a death sentence hanging over her.
