Bahçeli on EU Exit: 'What Did Years of Excluding Turkey Bring to Europe?'

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli spoke at his party's TBMM Group Meeting. Bahçeli stated that the 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government held on July 7-8 should not be viewed as an ordinary diplomatic activity.Emphasizing that Turkey is at the center of the important debates of the new era, Bahçeli said, "Turkey is one of the founding actors of the new era. NATO is at the dawn of a new era. Contradictions that harm the alliance law must be eliminated. Will the embargo on allies in NATO be lifted?"

Europe's problems cannot be managed with old habits. There can be no security equation without Turkey. Those who leave Turkey out should look at their security problems. What did the years of excluding Turkey bring to Europe?

Regarding the increased US-Iran tension in the Strait of Hormuz, Bahçeli stated, "We expressed our satisfaction with the agreement statements from this podium two weeks ago. The given agreement promise must be finalized. The bombing of Iran has shaken confidence in the possibility of peace. Iran has been attacked and its citizens have been killed. These facts must be seen. The statement by the US President that 'The agreement is over for me' is problematic. The agreement is a commitment of the state, not an individual."
