UAE Makes Energy Move with $6.2 Billion Gas Investment

The United Arab Emirates has taken a significant step in its energy strategy by investing in natural gas production. Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has announced a $6.2 billion investment to develop the Umm Shaif Gas Cap field, one of the country's oldest offshore natural gas fields.
The project aims to produce over 17 million cubic meters of natural gas and associated gas liquids per day, which is equivalent to approximately 10% of the UAE's current daily natural gas consumption. Production is expected to start by 2030.
The developments in the Strait of Hormuz have increased the importance of the project. With around 20% of the world's liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade passing through this route, the events have once again highlighted the fragility of global energy supply.
The UAE has the seventh-largest proven natural gas reserves in the world and produces over 4 million barrels of oil per day. The country aims to reach an LNG production capacity of 47 million metric tons per year by 2035.
The project, which will be developed in partnership with TotalEnergies, Eni, and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), aims to strengthen Abu Dhabi's position in the global natural gas and LNG market.
