Hotel's Unjust Behavior Due to Discrimination: 10,000 TL Compensation for Two Men

The Ankara 7th Consumer Court ruled that the Miarosa İncekum Beach Hotel, which rejected the accommodation request of two men due to 'male accommodation rooms being full', would pay 10,000 TL in compensation. Two lawyer friends, Vural Yıldırım and Şahin Antakyalıoğlu, requested accommodation at the mentioned hotel in Antalya Alanya for a business trip. However, the hotel manager rejected their request, citing that the limited number of male accommodation rooms were full. Against this decision, lawyer Vural Yıldırım applied to the Turkish Human Rights and Equality Institution, arguing that they were not admitted to the hotel due to their gender and were subjected to discrimination.

The fact that the plaintiffs were reduced to the status of 'undesirable customers' solely because they were men did not only result in the restriction of their access to the service, but also led to a moral violation of their personal rights.

The institution decided that the hotel would be fined 3,000 TL for violating the ban on gender-based discrimination. The two lawyers filed a compensation lawsuit in the Ankara 7th Consumer Court. In the lawsuit, it was argued that they were subjected to gender-based discrimination because they were not admitted to the hotel.
