Rising Temperatures in Europe Increase the Risk of Infectious Diseases
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has warned that the increasing temperatures and prolonged summers in Europe due to climate change are creating favorable conditions for the spread of infectious diseases. The ECDC notes that not only heatwaves but also prolonged periods of high temperatures create an environment conducive to the spread of infections. The center emphasizes that rising temperatures cause bacteria to multiply more quickly in food, highlighting the importance of adhering to hygiene rules and storing food under appropriate conditions.According to the ECDC, longer periods of heat and humidity facilitate the spread of invasive mosquito species that were previously unseen in many parts of Europe. This situation increases the risk of diseases such as Dang fever, Chikungunya, and West Nile Virus.
