European Union's Russian Sanctions Impasse: Disagreement Continues
The European Union has failed to reach a common decision on the 21st sanctions package against Russia. Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot stated that the package cannot be accepted due to objections from several member countries. Diplomatic contacts continue, while the future of the sanctions package remains uncertain. The EU countries failed to agree on the 21st sanctions package planned against Russia. In his assessments related to the new sanctions package, Prévot noted that some member countries still have reservations about the scope and content of the package. The Belgian Minister stated, 'Today, it was not possible to create the necessary conditions for the adoption of the 21st sanctions package,' while many EU countries continue to object to the draft text. The Russian administration continues to argue that the sanctions imposed by the West are a long-term policy aimed at weakening the country. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously stated that the West is pursuing a strategy of encircling Russia, and that the sanctions not only affect the Russian economy but also negatively impact the global economic system.
