European Union Announces New Sanctions Against Russia

The European Union has introduced a new set of sanctions against Russia. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the details of this package. The EU was unable to implement its plan to impose a visa ban on participants in Russia's military operations in Ukraine and Donbass.
Von der Leyen stated that certain transactions with Russian banks will be prohibited and the oil price cap will be frozen for a year. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas reported that a total of 218 items have been added to the sanctions list. The new measures target 50 defense industry enterprises, 40 ships, and over 100 banks.
