Asia's Rain-Induced Disaster: Fatalities Rise in India and Pakistan
Heavy rains in parts of Asia have led to widespread flooding in India and Pakistan, resulting in a growing number of fatalities.In Pakistan, the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab have been severely affected by monsoon rains, causing flash floods and landslides. The death toll from these incidents has risen to 37.According to officials, 20 people lost their lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 17 in Punjab. The total number of fatalities in the country due to rain-related incidents has thus reached 37.Meanwhile, in the Gilgit-Baltistan region and Pakistan-administered Azad Jammu and Kashmir, heavy rains have caused flooding and landslides, damaging crops and homes in the area.In the northeastern Indian state of Assam, the death toll from floods caused by heavy rains has risen to 41. Ten more people lost their lives in the past 24 hours due to flooding.Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that over 100 people are missing and the death toll may increase. The Indian army is also assisting in the ongoing rescue and relief efforts in the state.
