Death Toll Rises to 78 in Assam Floods

The death toll from the severe floods in India's northeastern state of Assam has risen to 78, with over 1.1 million people affected across the state. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) announced in a social media post that the bodies of three more people had been recovered, bringing the death toll to 78. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the floods have affected over 1.1 million people and that eight people are still missing. Sarma also mentioned that approximately 1,718 relief centers are operational in the region. Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall.
